University of Phayao Hosts “Preserving the Traditional Rice Planting Way of Life” Activity to Promote Lanna Wisdom through Integrated Learning
On August 13, 2025, at 3:00 PM, the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, University of Phayao, in collaboration with the Institute for Learning Innovation, the School of Education, the Demonstration School of the University of Phayao, and the Division of Buildings and Grounds, organized the cultural event titled “Preserving the Traditional Rice Planting Way of Life” at the Sufficiency Economy Learning Center, University of Phayao.
The event was honored by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supakorn Phongsabangpo, President of the University of Phayao, who presided over the ceremony. Opening remarks were delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Namngern Jantramani, Director of the Institute for Learning Innovation.
Reviving Local Wisdom and Culture
This event was held under the theme “Preserve, Promote, and Extend Local Wisdom”, aiming to pass on traditional rice planting knowledge based on the cultural heritage of Eastern Lanna. These practices represent a rich and valuable aspect of Northern Thailand’s historical identity. The activity focused on hands-on learning and inclusive participation, engaging university staff, students, school children, and local communities in meaningful cultural experiences.
Cultural Performances and Rituals
The event featured a multimedia exhibition simulating traditional rice cultivation—from soil preparation and rice variety selection to transplanting techniques. A major highlight was the “Haek Na” ritual, a sacred Lanna tradition of ceremonial first rice planting. As a symbol of good fortune, the university president planted the first seedling of “UP1” fragrant rice, a local variety developed by the University of Phayao to strengthen regional identity and agricultural value.
Following the ritual, university administrators, faculty members, graduate students, and school students enthusiastically participated in traditional Lanna-style rice transplanting. The event was filled with joy, teamwork, and cultural pride.
Interactive and Experiential Activities
To further enhance the learning experience, several additional activities were organized, including:
A traditional fish-catching competition in the paddy field, offering participants a taste of rural life
A rice culture quiz competition, testing participants’ knowledge with fun and educational rewards
Exhibition booths displaying local rice varieties and community-based agricultural innovations, hosted by university researchers and local knowledge leaders
Integrating Culture, Education, and Research
The “Preserving the Traditional Rice Planting Way of Life” activity exemplifies the integration of the university’s core missions in research, academic services, teaching and learning, and cultural preservation. The initiative fosters interdisciplinary learning and strengthens the connection between agriculture, community livelihoods, and local innovation—in alignment with the University of Phayao’s vision to be a “University for Sustainable Local Development.”

คณะเกษตรศาสตร์และทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา ร่วมจัดกิจกรรม “สืบสานวิถีดำนา” ถ่ายทอดภูมิปัญญาล้านนา สู่การเรียนรู้แบบบูรณาการ
เมื่อวันที่ 13 สิงหาคม 2568 เวลา 15.00 น. คณะเกษตรศาสตร์และทรัพยากรธรรมชาติ มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา ร่วมกับ สถาบันนวัตกรรมการเรียนรู้ วิทยาลัยการศึกษา โรงเรียนสาธิตมหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา และกองอาคารสถานที่ จัดกิจกรรม “สืบสานวิถีดำนา” ณ ศูนย์การเรียนรู้เศรษฐกิจพอเพียง มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา โดยได้รับเกียรติจาก รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.สุภกร พงศบางโพธิ์ อธิการบดีมหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา เป็นประธานในพิธี และมี ผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ ดร.น้ำเงิน จันทรมณี ผู้อำนวยการสถาบันนวัตกรรมการเรียนรู้ เป็นผู้กล่าวรายงาน
กิจกรรมครั้งนี้จัดขึ้นภายใต้แนวคิด “สืบสาน อนุรักษ์ และต่อยอดภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่น” เพื่อถ่ายทอดความรู้ด้านการดำนาแบบดั้งเดิมตามวิถีวัฒนธรรมล้านนาตะวันออก ซึ่งเป็นมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมอันล้ำค่าของภาคเหนือ โดยเน้นการเรียนรู้ผ่านประสบการณ์จริงและการมีส่วนร่วมของทุกภาคส่วน ทั้งบุคลากร นิสิต นักเรียน และชุมชนโดยรอบ
ภายในกิจกรรมมีการจัดแสดง นิทรรศการสื่อผสมจำลองวิถีการปลูกข้าว ตั้งแต่กระบวนการเตรียมดิน การเลือกพันธุ์ข้าว จนถึงขั้นตอนการดำนา พร้อมทั้งมี พิธี "แฮกนา" หรือพิธีลงแขกดำนาแรก อันเป็นประเพณีอันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของชาวล้านนา โดยท่านอธิการบดีได้เป็นผู้ปักกล้าดำนาพันธุ์ข้าวหอม “มพ.1” กล้าแรก ซึ่งถือเป็นพันธุ์ข้าวท้องถิ่นที่มหาวิทยาลัยพะเยาพัฒนาขึ้นเพื่อส่งเสริมอัตลักษณ์และคุณค่าใหม่ให้กับพื้นที่ภาคเหนือ
หลังจากนั้น คณะผู้บริหาร บุคลากร นิสิต และนักเรียนโรงเรียนสาธิตมหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา ได้ร่วมกันดำนาตามวิถีล้านนาในบรรยากาศที่เต็มไปด้วยความร่วมแรงร่วมใจและความสนุกสนาน นอกจากนี้ยังมีกิจกรรมส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้อื่นๆ เช่น
กิจกรรมแข่งขันจับปลาในแปลงนา สร้างความสนุกและประสบการณ์ชีวิตชนบท
กิจกรรมตอบคำถามชิงรางวัล เพื่อทดสอบความรู้เกี่ยวกับวัฒนธรรมการทำนา
บูธแสดงพันธุ์ข้าวและนวัตกรรมท้องถิ่น ที่เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้เข้าร่วมเรียนรู้จากนักวิจัยและชุมชนต้นแบบ
กิจกรรม “สืบสานวิถีดำนา” ถือเป็นการบูรณาการพันธกิจของมหาวิทยาลัยด้าน การวิจัย บริการวิชาการ การเรียนการสอน และการทำนุบำรุงศิลปวัฒนธรรม โดยมีเป้าหมายเพื่อสร้างการเรียนรู้ข้ามศาสตร์ที่หลากหลาย เชื่อมโยงองค์ความรู้ด้านเกษตรกรรม วิถีชุมชน และนวัตกรรมชุมชน ให้สอดรับกับแนวคิด “มหาวิทยาลัยเพื่อพัฒนาท้องถิ่นอย่างยั่งยืน” ของมหาวิทยาลัยพะเยา
